ALB Australasian Law Awards 2010

Russell McVeagh wins four awards at ALB Australasian Law Awards 2010
Partner and Chairman of the Board, Pip Greenwood, has won New Zealand Dealmaker of the Year for the second time at the ALB Australasian Law Awards held on 13 May 2010.

Russell McVeagh also scooped the awards for New Zealand Deal Team of the Year (Capital Markets Team), New Zealand Deal of the Year for the Fisher and Paykel recapitalisation and M&A Deal of the Year for the Kirin Lion Nathan Acquisition.

Held in Sydney, the awards night is the premier event for the Australian and New Zealand legal industry, recognising and celebrating the successes of the past year. These awards are both a reflection of the excellence of our teams and of the quality of work undertaken by our clients.

  • NZ Deal Team of the Year - Russell McVeagh Capital Markets Team: The team was recognised for its dominance of the major equity raisings in New Zealand in 2009 (acting for nine out 11).
  • NZ Dealmaker of the Year - Pip Greenwood: Pip was recognised for her contribution to the numerous capital raisings as well as her involvement in major deals for NAB and Lion Nathan.
  • Australasia-wide M&A Deal of the Year - Kirin Lion Nathan Acquisition: This deal was the largest investment ever by a Japanese company in Australia and created one of the largest food and beverage companies in Asia-Pacific.
  • NZ Deal of the Year - Fisher and Paykel Recapitalisation: This NZ$775m deal involved several components negotiated under tight timeframes.

Russell McVeagh was also nominated for Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year and Managing Partner/CEO of the Year and was the only New Zealand firm nominated for the Corporate Citizen Firm of the Year.

ALB Australasian Law Awards 2009

Congratulations to Wellington partner Pat Bowler who won the NZ Dealmaker of the Year award at the ALB Australasian Law Awards 2009.

Russell McVeagh was nominated in seven categories, most of which were Australasia wide in scope. For many Russell McVeagh was the only New Zealand firm nominated. The categories in which Russell McVeagh was a finalist included:

IFLR New Zealand Law Firm of the Year

Russell McVeagh was named IFLR New Zealand Law Firm of the Year at the IFLR awards, held on March 4 2009 in Hong Kong.  The awards evaluate the best law firms in each major jurisdiction throughout Asia Pacific on a range of measures, including market reputation and major transactions. IFLR (International Financial Law Review) is a highly respected global publication.

Success at the ALB awards 2008

Pip Greenwood won Dealmaker of the Year New Zealand, and the firm's resource management team led by Derek Nolan won Commercial Property and Construction Deal of the Year for the firm's involvement in the major project to redevelop prime Auckland waterfront land.

Russell McVeagh received more nominations than any other New Zealand firm for the prestigious Australasian Legal Business Awards. more
