Your CareerSummer Clerks

Training

Training and professional development is a key priority at Russell McVeagh.  We have a dedicated training team, and the most comprehensive training programme in Australasia. That is how much we value it, and our staff does too.
Training starts right from your first days as a summer clerk at Russell McVeagh and covers systems, software, research and other "need to knows".

During the summer with us you will learn about library and information systems, research skills, document drafting and technical skills, plus client relationship and effective communication strategies. What you learn will always be totally relevant to your future career.
In addition, each practice group offers team-based training. Litigation teams run a comprehensive Advocacy Training Programme It’s a Russell McVeagh point of difference, and while not assessed, gives those who maybe hadn’t considered litigation, a brief taste and valuable broad-brush legal experience early on. Combining theory and practice, sessions cover and cover court-room etiquette, theory of the case, content and delivery of opening submissions and witness examination. The Corporate Advisory Group covers corporate housekeeping, and takes a case study view of specific legal transactions with senior solicitors giving the inside story on top transactions from the past year. The legal principles covered at law school really come into context in these sessions.
In scheduled sessions throughout the summer all practice groups give presentations in their respective areas. All summer clerks are welcome to attend.
