Michael specialises in commercial litigation, regulatory proceedings, public law, health law and media law. He has appeared as lead counsel in all New Zealand Courts. He is a panel counsel for the Crown, the Serious Fraud Office and the SPCA.

Michael joined Russell McVeagh as a partner in April 2007, bringing with him considerable court experience. He was previously a partner at Meredith Connell, and has also worked for Allen & Overy in both their London and Tokyo offices.
- Representing companies in defence of various regulatory investigations and prosecutions (including Telecom, Xtra, TV Works)
- Representing and advising a range of healthcare providers in respect to contractual, regulatory and medico-legal issues (including Labtests, Baxter, Pfizer, Healthcare NZ, Medical Council)
- Advising and representing a trustee company in respect to issues arising in respect to finance companies
- Judicial review actions against the Crown
- Arbitrations for a range of commercial clients in respect of contractual disputes
